Thanx to all 4 info on Cpu from 600x to 600e. To be honest with you guys (& gals), I just bought a very clean, faulty, 600e off ebay for £50 and at the same time, I saw this 600x Cpu & Fan assembly going cheap as well, so I plunged in and bought that as well.
I find myself with a lot of time on my hands these days, (due to being Medically Retired following Blood clots in both my legs etc............), and have owned my current 600e for 2 trouble free years now, so I
thought I'd pass some time away and have a go at repairing one.
I have repaired desktop Pc's for many years now but I'm a bit stumped where Laptops are concerned, so if anyone is willing to give further advice on getting this faulty 600e up & running, I will eventually fit the 600x Cpu in it.
600e boots to an A:\ but I have yet to source & install a hard disk, so until then I'll just say thanks again for your help.
Regards
Barry

TP600E MODS
ON YA BAZ,
FOR STARTERS the tp 600e has superior ram timings than the 600x
2-3-3 vs 3-2-2 ,regardless disabling the onboard ram on both respectivly allows decent ram to yield 2-2-2 timings @up to 512 mb on both models.
graphics card performance are identical despite the assumed 2.5 vs 4mb speculation, despite for some wierd reason ibm engineers failed to utilise the 2x agp chipset to full potential, both models handled virtually everything i tried.as i'm writing this on one of my tp600e modded to p111 @540mgz/108 fsb with a 5,400 rpm -8mb cache hdd + 160 mb ram in w9x
it seems every bit as efficient as my 1.6ghz p111 server with 03 stripe raid on 15k cheetah drives +1gb ram in win xp prosp1(ok maybe a tad slower)but gee no disgrace i assure you + i cannot say its slower than many a p4 desktops i come across too.
to mod the 600e to run p111 you have to overcome the post 127 error afterwards ,that requires to mod the bois hex edit to disable the onboard cache +allow the pc to boot .once your in windows to enable the l2 cache you will need to install power leap cache enabler + set it up to auto load on boot + thats it .you can run the original p2 fan ok ,as i did so at 810mgz with the aid of arctic silver.conversely the bigger p111 fan will cool better but will use alot of battery too,+ you have to remove some protruding plastic inside the exhaust grille lugs to allow the p111 fan to fit perfectly.for instructions on how to edit the bios look into wims bios /re tp600e bios mods for the most comprehensive information +developments on this beaut notebook as far as cpu mods go.
you will be rapt i promise you.
