where to buy T43 memory?

#1 Post by joeganni » Thu Dec 08, 2005 10:38 pm

Hi,

I want to upgrade my T43 with one more 512M DDR2 memory.
Where to buy ?

BTW: I already have 512M memory in the T43.
I found a great deal on newegg 1G only for $60 after rebate.. Is that one fit for T43?

Thanks
 :P

if it is PC2-4200 it should work in your T43..

check the specs on the memory..

Wow, that's $30 off what I bought a few weeks ago. Was it Kingston or another big brand?

Ditto on Bill, you need to check your specs ve-ry care-ful-ly, and ensure you buy the right kind. If in doubt, I'm MORE THAN SURE that the Lenovo site will help you if you go through the selection process there. ;)

I've always bought from Crucial, which is usually among the cheapest, well regarded, and has a great tool on the website for finding the correct memory for the computer.

I too recommend Crucial memory, but I would not purchase my memory directly. Places such as Newegg offer the same memory at a somewhat lower price.

I just received my T43 and removed the preinstalled 256ram it came with. I replaced this Dimm with new a 512mb PC4200 module and then added another 512mb in the other Dimm slot for 1 gig. Bought Kingston Value on NewEgg and it works fine. I will probably post the 256mb for sale some day. 8)

Brands mentioned above will probably work fine. The thing to keep in mind is the warranty.
If you purchase from the IBM website then your new memory will take on the warranty of the TP.
If you ever have any issues with it service will be trouble free.

If you purchase from somewhere else and you have issues you will have to got back to where you purchased it for support. IBM wont replace it.

I purchased a T43 (266872U) back in May, gave the already intsalled 512MB stick to a friend, and then upgraded it with 2x Corsair Value Select VS1GSDS533D2, 1GB DDR2 533 (PC2-4200) SODIMM, 200-Pin, Non-ECC. It's worked like a charm ever since.

That Kingston KVR533D2S4/1G should work fine (at least according to the specs they have posted). And both Kingston & Corsair have lifetime equal replacement warranties.

FWIW according to Corsair tech support, the difference between "System Select" and "Value Select" is that System Select is designed & guaranteed to work with OEM memory. So if you plan on adding a stick while keeping the OEM memory installed, you should go with System Select. If you are replacing memory entirely use "Value Select" instead.

I'd personally go with some OEM Crucial. Which is really Micron. IBM has been known to use them as well... so it's the same thing.
T43 (2687-DUU) - 1.86GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 100GB 5400 (non IBM-firmware Hitachi 5k100) HD, Fingerprint Scanner, 802.11abg/Bluetooth, ATI x300

I like to use www.pricescan.com for price shopping ... but I also just bought some Kingston memory at Newegg.com for my new T43, better price than anyone [edit]at the time that i bought it.

But.

Not to take away from our fine host here,... I trust he will provide much better, personal service than you'd get at most large online stores. And he knows Thinkpads. Sometimes, that's worth the extra $10-20. ;)
