I ordered my Thinkpad today. Lenovo's ordering is messed up a bit. Had to submit the order twice.

But I got 5% off for student discount when I talked to the guy, so it was all good. :D

T42s available

#7 Post by alison » Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:20 am

I bought a T42 just last week - the T42 2379 RFU - and took advantage of the extra 512MB. However, if you aren't finding the computer on their website - you might check out the web - if you do a websearch for this model you will find them for less than on the web and actually less than the the corporate deal price. Of course you don't get the extra memory.

new laptop

Yes - I'm very excited. My parents bought a T43 not very long ago and I chose the T42 after reading about all the differences. Thankfully, my parents appear to have a good T43 without fan issues. Mine is great and the battery is awesome. Full power and 3+ hours. The only thing that I have to get use to is the keyboard - Parents have the Thai keyboard and this one is much different. So, after trying out both the T43 and T42, it seems you should get the one that balances the budget best.

One thing I definitely noticed was the change in the warranties being offered - the 3 year appears to be going by the wayside. This T42 appears to be one of the few that have it. Some available on the web also have the 3 year warranty on new version and at a cheaper deal than corporate perks - so check out the options. I am also happy to say that mine only took 5 days to get here with standard shipping. Great experience.

Hey buds... I found this at C/Net. Apparently they think T42 is a better option than the T43, what do you think? Is it an erroneous appreciation? Don't know why I believe this was written by Lenovo's itself...

"Lenovo ThinkPad T42. Better features.
As an interesting upgrade option, it could be worth it for you to pay more and have the Lenovo ThinkPad T42, which has certain advantages. Although it will cost you about $425 more than the Lenovo ThinkPad T43, it will bring you into a different class of notebooks. For instance, it has 1400 x 1050 native screen resolution, against the 1024 x 768 of the Lenovo ThinkPad T43. In addition, the Lenovo ThinkPad T42 has a 5-hour manufacturer estimated battery life, as opposed to 3.8-hour manufacturer estimated battery life for the Lenovo ThinkPad T43. Generally, Thinkpads lead the way in terms of design, with features such as keyboard lighting, brilliant displays, and what many consider the most responsive keyboards in the industry. The T series is one of the best thin-n-light notebooks on the market today, offering an awesome combination of power and mobility.

The T 43 is available in both 14.1" and 15" screen sizes, both of which can be had in 1400 X 1050 screens, so that article is wrong.

I went for the T42 over the T43 but not for any reasons they mentioned. I find CNET to be pretty worthless in general.

The Update Connector is no longer used for updates from IBM if that is what you mean. :)

It is now the software installer, which should have come over on at least one system update. It is under the ThinkVantage portion in the Program Files menu. It should automatically detect your System and update accordingly. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
