Thinkpad T4x and Fn+F5

#1 Post by dr_st » Fri Dec 09, 2005 12:15 pm

Long story short.

I've got a T42 with the Intel 2200BG WiFi card. It came preinstalled with the 8.1.0.28 drivers.

Pressing Fn+F5 allows one to turn the Wireless/Bluetooth radios on or off on the Thinkpads.

I tried several times to update to the latest drivers for the Wireless card. Tried to upgrade manually or through Thinkpad Software Installer.

The result is always the same: I lose the ability to control the power of the WiFi card through Fn+F5. It tells me "cannot change state...reinstall driver" and only Bluetooth can be controlled.

I always ended up reverting back to the old driver because of that. Now I just don't update it anymore.

From reading this forum it seems that I'm far from being the only one with this problem.

So a question - what's going on?

Does anybody actually have different versions of the drivers and can still use Fn+F5 to toggle the WiFi state?

I have a T42 with the Intel 2200BG wireless adapter. I am using the latest wireless drivers (from IBM/Lenovo) and the latest version of Access Connections, and Fn + F5 works just fine. I do not have Bluetooth however.

You might try uninstalling Access Connections, the Bluetooth driver, and the Intel 2200 wireless driver. Reboot, then install the Bluetooth driver first, then the Intel 2200 driver, reboot, then install Access Connections.

If the above doesn't work, uninstall everything again, and this time install the Intel 2200 driver first then the Bluetooth driver, reboot, then install Access Connections.
