Thinkpads and Graphics

#1 Post by alternative minimum » Fri Dec 09, 2005 4:18 pm

I am looking to get a newer model thinkpad, with good graphics capability. The FireGL enabled ones interest me, but I cannot find any good information on how these stack up to the mobility x300/9600/9000 parts.

I need something that can do:

1) Light CAD work.
2) 3D gaming (DX9 stuff)
3) Google Earth/Keyhole

What would people recommend?

I love my T20 (and 380XD, for that matter) but it's a bit long in the tooth for some of the above stuff.

FireGL T2 (Thinkpad T42p) = Radeon 9600 (will be actually better than the 9600 on the regular T42, due to 128MB versus 64MB)
FireGL V3200 (Thinkpad T43) = Radeon X600 (will be considerably better than the X300)

Check out this that starts here as well as this.

Finally, this review at Tom's Hardware is your best bet
