r51 Bluetooth Antenna

#1 Post by cshuttle » Fri Dec 09, 2005 9:43 pm

Okay, so after looking around this page a lot I've learned that I can refit my r51 to have bluetooth. I've already got the modem replaced with the BT/modem combo card, so that's done.

My issue is in getting a BT antenna, as I have none on this notebook. I've been trying to order PN 13N5179, but as many people have mentioned, I'm unable to order it from IBM directly. So, I came upon all of these antennas on ebay--

Will these work and suit my needs?

Thanks!

You can use any antenna. I didn't have the BT specific antenna so I used one connector on an extra set of wifi antennas that I had. Once connected I have excellent range, better than 30FT with my phone even through concrete walls and such. Even without the antenna as long as my phone sat next to the pc nearest the BMDC they would connection fine.

I didn't trim or cut the cable at all, just placed it as neatly as I could under the keyboard. I didn't even wire it up through the LCD.

Bluetooth in r51

#3 Post by mbout44 » Thu Feb 16, 2006 8:47 pm

You said that you succeeded to install bluetooth in your ThinkPad r51. I need help because when I installed it a message appeared that I had a SECURITY message saying that I do not have the right MOdem card into the ThinkPad. I know the model of the card and the antenna are exactly the right model, but the ThinkPad seems not to accept it. How did you do to bypass this "security feature" cause it seems that it is a security feature..

Help please.
