registry problem possibly?

#1 Post by shawtysbus » Fri Dec 09, 2005 11:14 pm

Hey I have an IBM thinkpad r50e and ive had it for a while and reformated it a couple times due to other things...The last time I reformatted it I kept the administator log in and kept all of my stuff on it and it worked fine. whenever i restarted the computer a screen would pop up and it said would you like to reseal this for next user and a couple other options. so finally i clicked reseal so that screen would start popping up. this is when the problems started.

i made another user and use this one now but NOTHING saves on my computer. well except things i download. i mean when im in internet explorer none of my links stay in the drop down menu, and when im on AIM i cant change font or anything it just goes back to times new roman and whenever i restart aim it says are you new to aim and type in a screen name blah blah blah. so i REALLY don know what to do now im out of ideas. i dont know whats wrong with it and i really dont want to reformat my computer again. can someone please help me?? thank you so much!!

and another thing, my sound wont work and neither will my cd drive and according to device manager everything is working properly.

im thinking this is a registry access permission problem because when i download thats what it says and i used some registry repair programs but they wont work so can someone please help? thanks!!

Make sure your new user is a member of the Administrator's group.

Whenever I have reloaded the recovery partition right at the end of the process there is a screen with options that perform certain tasks. If memory serves me one of the options is to reseal so that when the new user recieves the thinkpad and turns it on the OS starts to load. One time I loaded on a 10G hard drive just for fun/experimentation and did not have enough disk space to convert to ntfs. The OS ran but underspaced, whenever I shut down there was this screen that came up with those options, I seem to remember one that was similar to factory reseal or reseal for next user.

What are the other options? MFG clean?

i dont remember what the other options were. i think one was like factory or something. they dont come up anymore because i pressed the reseal option already.

That's what I was thinking too, searched the IBM troubleshooting site and really found nothing. I have reinstalled my HD a bunch of times and am about %90 sure that this comes up at the end of the install before it converts to NTFS.
