Interesting Wireless Behavior on T42

#1 Post by rideDPU » Sat Dec 10, 2005 8:37 pm

I just began having an interesting problem: I can no longer access the internet via my WRT54g. I can connect and get an IP address, but no internet, AIM, etc. When I plug into the 54g, everything works fine. When I access a different access point, no problem. I have made sure everything is up to date on both my ThinkPad and my WRT54g (including going back to the "official" firmware). Anyone have any idea on where to start?

FYI, I have the Intel 2200 BG card..

Thanks,
Mark

Can you check the access point with another machine? It could be the AP.

Have you got any firewalls running? Try turning them off for a short period.

What is the IP address you're assigned? Is it in the normal range (should probably be 192.168.xxx.xxx). My 2200 doesn't seem to like DHCP and sometimes it behaves as if its connected ok even when it hasn't. The only way to tell it's not be properly assigned is that it's got the windows default IP address (169.254.4.69). Run ipconfig /all and see what address you've got.

Try it with a static IP address and see if that helps. Mine is only reliable with a static IP.

Also here's a thread with some of the other crazy hoops I had to jump through to get my 2200 up and running with a D-Link AP. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=10404

The 2200 is a bloody awful card. The only weak component in an otherwise great machine...

Sorry, forgot to mention that everyone else seems to have no problem connecting to my AP...also, my IP is in the correct range...

You might have a corrupt Winsock. See following links for more info. Since they are from Microsoft's site, they are best viewed in IE.

EDIT: BTW, I have the Intel 2200 BG card, and I don't find it to be bloodly awful. Works great for me. Especially with the latest drivers. :D
