MCE 2005 + Radeon X300 + Omega 2.6.87 = Success!

For the past 6 months or so, it's been impossible to upgrade the Radeon X300 drivers on my T43 running Media Center Edition 2005. I'd previously tried all the IBM, ATI, Microsoft, and Omega drivers, yet none worked, except for the older IBM drivers dated 11/2004 v6.14. The drivers would install, but upon rebooting, it wouldn't load & you'd be stuck in 8-bit color at 640x480 and couldn't change out of it.

I'm happy to report that the newly released (Dec '05) Omega v2.6.87 drivers are working great and media center seems snappier compared to the lame referrence drivers IBM stuck us with.

Did you try modifying the official Catalyst drivers with the Patje Mobility modder? I've had great success with that combination.

Nope, sure didn't! This is the first I've heard of the Mobility mod! I'll have to give that a try for sure!

One question though, does that add the power management functionality to the ATI drivers? (eg it automatically down-clocks the X300 when running on battery).

I can't find this feature in the Omega drivers...maybe it's here, but I can't find it.
