Replacing processor

#1 Post by leegaard » Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:30 pm

I have found an 2.0 Ghz processor (755)

Will it be easy to replace one of my current 1.7 Ghz and will the current setup supply sufficient cooling for this processor.

Any experiences?

If you know how to do it, replacing CPU is relatively simple. The cooling is identical on all Thinkpads T4X

Replacing processor

Isnt it quite similar to replacing it on a desktop pc. Apart from the heatpipe thing and so forth.

Any specific precautions to take?

Any Dothan with FSB 400 will fit?

Replacing the processor should not be difficult, you will need to get the latest bios disk ready to update the bios with info on the new processor. Best thing to do is to go to http://www.pc.ibm.com/support once you get there, type in your machine number xxxx-xxx, if you did it right, you will see your system details. On the left side, you will see a link to publications, download the Hardware maintenance manual. This will show you how to take your laptop apart. for the processor, you will need to take the keyboard out, the wrist rest out and then you will see the heatink/heatpipe on the left side.
