Problem running a game (World of Warcraft), please help.

#1 Post by STS06 » Tue Dec 13, 2005 10:16 pm

Hello all, hope everyone is having a good holidays.

I have a slight problem...I JUST bought World of Warcraft, a mmorpg, installed in on my T42 (2373N3U- bought in august), but the game won't run. The game, when opened, just goes to a black screen but then stops responding. After numerous calls to Blizzard (the game's maker) and IBM Tech support, its determined that the game is running fine and there are no software problems (for those who are computer savy.. directx diagnostic tool was used. Also, there are no hardware problems (using PC Doctor). The problem, from what i was told, lies in the fact that, and I quote from the Blizzard Tech Support, "the IRQ has the sound card ,video card, network card, and internal modem attached to it". The game is simply too demanding...thats what the IBM tech support said. Problem is that I KNOW people have ran this game without a hitch on IBM comps-particularily the T42 and T43. I was told to shut down any and every unnecessary program to ensure that nothing is prohibiting the game from loading.

I'm really hoping there are World of Warcraft players who have played the game on their IBM laptops on these boards. I'm really not sure what to do. Any help is appreciated. Thank you and have a good holidays everyone!

STS06, I have run WoW successfully on both a T42 and a T43.

On the T42, I had a 32MB ati vid card, along with 2GB of RAM. However, I ran it with only 512MB RAM on the T42 as well.

Once I installed the 2GB of RAM, I was able to play with ease.

Now, if you don't have the ati vid card, and if it's not at least 32MB, then you're sunk. The ati (7500 mobile, I think) was honestly the bare basement that would run WoW. When I upgraded to the T43 (with 128 MB Intel integrated vid card, yuck, but it's better), I was able to see a huge difference in every aspect of the game.

Let me know if this helps.

counter strike source

I'm trying to play Counter Strike Source & having the same trouble.

I get this blank screen. I went to the technical support page from Valve, and it recommended -Windows -Console thing.

I did. It doesn't help. New directx 9.0c? no use.

I don't get it. did I install the directx in a wrong way?

When first opened, the package asks me to find a location to extract the files.

I did it in the DirectX folder in system32 in Windows folder.

And then I ran the installation. 9.0c. but the steam system reader says that I still have Directx 6.

How do I upgrade my directx? Thanks.
