ThinkPad R51e for college student...what do you think? Help!

#1 Post by galileo634 » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:11 pm

Hi. I'm a college student from Argentina and I'll buy my first notebook. I'll use it basically for MS Office, internet, DVDs, MP3. Here in my country Lenovo/IBM sells this notebook only for students with 20% OFF. What do you think about this laptop? I want a laptop to use for the next 3-4 years.

My R51; 1836 Q4U is an excellent machine for your needs. I have used it daily for the last year and travel with it once a week. IBM/Lenovo do a fine job of updating the drivers with one exception - Rescue and Recovery version 3.0 consumed a considerable amount of disk space. You should consider increasing the memory to at least 512 mb, which increased the 'efficiency' of the R51.

I reccomand Centrino® powered laptop. Find Centrino based
Thinkpad™ R51 series . :) centrino laptop comes with Intel™ "SPEEDSTEP" technology. Celeron M™ processor dont comes
with that technology and Centrino® laptop consumes less battery and
can up to 3:30 hours on battery where celeron hardly goes for 2 and half hour. Ok its your option but go for Centrino based ..You'll get good price if u plan to sell it later on . :)
