600x hard drive upgrade

#1 Post by noeffort » Wed Dec 14, 2005 2:35 pm

I have a 600x 500mhz type 2645-8eu machine with 320mb ram and win98se installed.
Plan on installing new hd and xp.
I can get hitachi 5k100 20 gb 5,400 rpm for about $66.00 or
Hitachi 7k60 60 gb 7,200 rpm for about $140.00

Is it worth the extra dollars for the 7,200? 20 GB is fine for what I need but if there would be increase in speed/performance I will spend the extra $$$.

Thanks in advance..... great forum, just discovered it today...

The speed difference is noticeable. It's not 7200/5400 times faster, but maybe 20 to 25% or so. Whether that's worth it, only you can say.

Went with the Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 from newegg.com. Item #: N82E16822146041. $75.00. Loaded xp pro and works like a charm.
