Thinkpad WiFi light

#1 Post by rosemarycane » Wed Dec 14, 2005 9:25 pm

I love my new thinkpad. After going through four other laptop brands, this is truly the cadillac of laptops. Just wondering if the wifi light constantly blinks when you are connected to the internet. Not that it really bothers me, but I was just wondering.

thanks,

Sean

Ahh, it varies from time to time. Usually stays on if you have a big download going or if you are doing alot of simultaneous browsing. It also depends on the power usage characteristics of the WiFi Card itself and at what levels they are set at.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums, if you haven't heard that already ( ) and glad you enjoy your new Thinkpad. 8) :)

Yes it blinks depending on the network loads.. like every times a X number of packets is sent/received, the lights blink. I guess it can be annoying but after a while you don't even notice it.

Really? I just looked at it now and it blinks even when no packets are being sent or received. :?

It appears to have its own "little thing going on"

It seems mine blinks less with the latest IBM/Lenovo wireless drivers and the latest version of Access Connections (I'm not sure which made the difference). I have the Intel 2200 BG wireless adapter. Mostly now, it blinks when there is traffic, but is solid the rest of the time.

It seems that I read that the Intel card blinks more than the IBM one. I saw this somewhere on this forum awhile back.

You are having a conversation on the blink frequency of the WiFi LED.

Actually, the Wifi light blinks whenever the transceiver is activated.

If nothing is running on your system, but the light blinks, check for background processes, such as Norton background update, windows updater or... some finely hidden malware/virus working through your Outlook mail folder and being very busy... !! :)

Blinks for me ... for a great illustration, try a speed test at DSL reports and watch your Wifi light. ;)
