Hi Friends,

A question about T42, is there any type which only has trackpoint but no UltraNav? or any type only has UltraNav? thank you,

UltraNav? Those are the drivers for the Trackpoint and the Touchpad. You can remove the UltraNav drivers manually. Or perhaps you mean the Touchpad? :)

All the T4X series have the Trackpoint and Touchpad combo (generally refered to as UltraNav). This was introduced with the T30 and has continued on. The T2X's, however, have only the Trackpoint.

Oh, and welcome to the Forums :D

Yup, every T4X, including the T42, has a Trackpoint and Touchpad.

You can disable touchpad or if you do not want it there at all, there are palm rests without touchpads that you can buy and replace.

there are, or were, palm rests for the 14 inch T40 series that have no touchpad..
and the keyboard bezel/palmrest for the 15 inch without the touchpad..
not sure if there are any without the touchpad and WITH the fingerprint reader..

most of us just ignore the touchpad..

FWIW, thare are drivers someplace that when installed, will make the touchpad into some sort of digitizer tablet..
so you can actually sigh a document..

What about the other way around

#7 Post by lowie » Thu Dec 15, 2005 6:24 pm

If I wanted to go the other way, upgrading from a trackpoint only to a dual trackpoint/touchpad situation, are there any possibilities?
I found this http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... L%3A1&rd=1
keyboard bezel on ebay, is it compatible with my thinkpad R40e 2684 A2C? I suppose I have to find out whether my main board has a connector for the touchoad cable... but i'm not that kind of a specialist

If so,i 'd love to de the upgrade!

Looking in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T40-42, the TrackPoint only option was available only on CTO (Configure To Order) ThinkPads.

I have a feeling that all the system boards for this series has the TouchPad connector. Just a hunch. Check out the Link: Hardware Maintenance Manual (July 2005) - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p for information.

EDIT: Your original post was regarding the T-series, but your last post is regarding the R-series. Here is the Link: Hardware Maintenance Manual (March 2004) - ThinkPad R40/e for the R40-series.

Wow; I had no idea you could have done that with a CTO and make the Touchpad a Digitizer Pad.

Thanks to Bill and GomJabbar for that....I will look for those things on the Net. :)

Bill, you mentioned that you're not sure if there is a bezel part for 14" T43's that do NOT have the touchpad but DO have a fingerprint reader. I'm interested in such a bezel, but haven't been able to find one on ibm's website. I assume that one such bezel isn't made. Does anyone with more knowledge than myself know of some such part?

I have one of those T40's that does not have a touchpad. I would like to get one that has both, especially if there really is software out there that can allow you to use it as a signature pad.

Anyone know where you can get this software?
