on seagate's hard drive

#1 Post by 2373gvuuser » Fri Dec 16, 2005 4:30 pm

Seagate Momentus 7200.1 - Hard drive - 100GB - internal - 2.5inches - Ultra ATA/ - ST910021A

Can the above drive be used on T42p without errors? And how about the noise?
Thank you.

Yes, it can...but Hitachi/IBM Travelstar or Fujitsu are better alternatives.

I agree with MadeinJapan, it will work, and there shouldn't be any problems.

The hard drive problems that you tend to hear about in this forum are generally related to the Sata drives in the T43/p models.

What about the horrid reliability of the IBM Deskstar line of hard drives that they sold recently to Hitachi. I wouldn't trust an IBM drive, which I actually am using right now.... time to run that backup job....

I haven't had any experience with Deskstars; what I can say that, of all the 20 or so drives I have operated over 3/4 of a decade, the IBM Travelstars seem to hold up the best. :)

my sentiments on Travelstar:

click brrrrrrrrr click click brrrrrrrrrrrrrr click click click brrrrrr

Anyone who has had a Travelstar with issues knows what I am talking about.

Funny...Mine never had issues; at least, none that I was aware of. I have heard a Toshiba drive do the exact same thing as what you are describing as well as have 2 of them fail due to slightlty elevated temperatures( (best guess). ;) :)
