FAN ERROR
FAN ERROR
Hi.
Whenever I start the computer (T42). it shows FAN ERROR with beeps and just turns off. What should I do?
I called the IBM but they said I'm out of warranty so they suggested me to buy the extended warranty and fix it. Otherwise, it would cost me around $200 to fix the FAN.
OR I could just buy the FAN and install it myself but I dont know the exact problem so I dont know what to do.
Do you guys think it's just a FAN problem or other things too?

Hmm that is a bummer. A fan costs $45 shipped.
The link below will help you order a new part if that is what you want.

Installing the HS/fan assembly is not too hard.
I put an M10 fan in my T40. The hardest part is getting the exhaust section to squeeze into the inside of the left side of the ThinkPad.

I'd go with the warranty. Their warranty's are *very* good. Well worth the cash.
My A31 was unrepairable, and they replaced it (since the A31 was discontinued I got a T43 of equiv specs).
They take care of their customers.
I will always keep my warranty extended as long as I value my laptop. It's well worth the investment.
