Titanium Thinkpads?
Lenovo has a website that is asking people to vote on which version of the Z60 they prefer, classic black or the special edition titanium. http://www.whichsideareyouon.com/?lang=en
So far the voting seems to be tipping toward Titanium, I wonder if this means that they will be making more 'special editions'. I hope not I prefer my Thinkpads Stealth Black.

I don't care for the titanium look either...seems like change for changes sake to me...

While I am resistant to change in many areas, I think I am ready for a change here. As I see the Titanium presented on Lenovo's website, I think it would be the one I would choose next time. I do like the fact that it is still black inside.
It's possible the Titanium color may appear different in person. So if in person I saw it as too silver looking, I might change my mind.

Heretic, indeed
A vote from me goes to black; it seems Europe is more conservative than North America but titanium is a few steps ahead...argh

Hmm... instead of Titanium, mabye Lenovo could do a black anodized aluminum lid. Anodized aluminum (like that on the iPod mini) seems very scratch resistant and sturdy.

I personally prefer black but if a majority of the customers want titanium, then I guess titanium is the way to go for future models. As long as people can choose between black and titanium, I see no reason for complaints.

lenovo is obviously trying to appeal to those buyers who buy the style rather than the substance..
titanium/silver or flat black.. as long as the quality remains, it should make little difference..
and for me, i would like to see a leather bound exterior case..

Ah, so you want a TransNote, huh Bill?
There's a truck that always advertises themselves as "professional grade," and that's what I think about the Thinkpad black. Silver, purple, titanium, berry blue and the like are for consumer toys. Black is for a professional grade tool. Plus is goes with everything and doesn't show fingerprints and dirt!
But the best part, in my opinion, is that the IBM Thinkpad looks timeless and classic. My TransNote, X31, 701, and 600X each look as if they could have been made yesterday, instead of spanning 10 years. That simple flat black with the IBM logo in the lower corner is perfect. No other laptop can say that.

Indeed... I doesn't matter which TP I take with me... ppl never notice I have a different model with me. (T41 SXGA or an X31... they don't see the difference from a distant)epbrown wrote:Ah, so you want a TransNote, huh Bill?

Tough I must say you can see fingerprints really easily on black tp's ...
And the rubberized paint isn't the strongest in the world either.
I am super careful with my own TP's but the X31 I bought second-hand really had its corners shaved of already ...

I voted Black.
On one hand, so long as they offer Black, they can offer any other colour they want.
One the other hand, I have been here before many times. Once businesses figure out what appeals to the masses, they forget and denounce the niche products.
I fear Black (now two decades old on IBM ThinkPads) will be gone before this decade is out. ... JD Hurst

The traditional black is very classy, a mercedez compared to a fiesta. There is to many shiny, chrome looking laptops out there, I have a feeling the cost to manufacture the black is higher, hence the possible shift.RS_003

Everytime I see a slim, flat black cigar box sitting on a coffee table, or at an airport, I think Thinkpad.. Seeing a silver one, I'll probably think PowerBook, or the new Hewlett-Compaqs.. They all scream overpriced or cheap to me.. ANd widescreen? THat's what I loved about Thinkpads was they WEREN'T being measured by the size of your screen.. They weren't measured by anything really becaue for years the ThinkPad has been in a class all it's own.. If you owned a laptop with the red green and blue, you were serious.. They've ruined it all by adding a touchpad.. I'm sure the Window key is ther as well.. I won;t buy anything from them because of the way Lenovo mainstreamed the ThinkPad.. Boo I say.. Boo..

As far as professionality goes, I really don't think it's so much color of the device so much as how it's applied. I think a good example of this would be the Handspring Visor back when it was new. The translucent color cases simply cried out consumer toy all the way yet they still managed to blend in quite well in most office environments.
I'm thinking that a very dark grey, very dark red or very dark blue titanium case option on some higher end ThinkPads might look nice. My only complaint about the current titanium case option on the Z60 is that it's too bright and doesn't blend in quite as well as it could with the ThinkPads.

For a little FYI, the original ThinkPad, if I'm not mistaken, was originally modeled after a Japanese lunchbox.stevezasycho wrote:Black

Obviously Lenovo wants to grow. In order to do that, it needs to increase its customer base. The masses want stylish laptops. Obviously substance is important, but you want to have a nice looking laptop as well. I hope Lenovo will launch a new brand or new Thinkpad series that is more focussed on design and style. I think the Apple powerbooks look lovely. Combine the reliability of a Thinkpad with the looks of an Apple, and you got a winner!
I like the IDEA of a Titanium Thinkpad. However I prefer the black. I like the rubberized paint with the glitter in it that is on my T23. I wouldn't mind a black anodized thinkpad made from magnesium or titanium (aluminum is too weak a mterial. Looka t how easily the Al powerbooks from Apple scratch and dent).
I voted for the black. Black is serious. Black is truly bad. I would love a special vader edition of a Thinkpad. That would be bad, which is excellent.

If its in titanium
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/sho ... 783&page=3
It better be anaodized. (Also, heres a flashlight forum to even throw everyone else off)
Less scratch resistant, comes in classic pale boring gray at higher voltages.

If I wanted something that looks like a powerbook or a dell I'd buy a powerbook or dell, when I buy a thinkpad I want a thinkpad.

Voted Black (yes I replied earlier, but did not see the voting link ..) why?
I come to love black.
90% of the people I meet say that it are ugly black boxes.. But when I see their Acers or dell's crashing they'll know it
Sure black has some disadvantages, when not so careful people use your laptop they can budge the rubber paint of (which has happened to my X31
) and you can make some nasty marks, for instance it’s very hard to get some spit of the cover.
But ill take that any day over those ugly plastic silver looking super easy scratchable dell's
