How do I turn off NumLk on boot?

#1 Post by yukit » Sun Jul 11, 2004 3:49 pm

This is really dumb, but I could not figure out why this started to happen recently.

This is annoying that I cannot enter my passwd without turning off the NumLk first.

I tried to fix it by going into the BIOS to change the NumLk setting from Auto to Off.
So the NumLk is now off while it is booting, but it gets turned on by the time the WinXP login screen is up.

I am not sure if this is Windows feature or Thinkpad feature.
Poked around the Thinkpad Configuration Utility, but could not find anything obvious.

TIA,

yuki

Yuki,

Go into the BIOS, select Config|Keyboard/Mouse and change NumLock from Auto or On to Off and that should do it.

Actually, this is exactly what I have tried. My T40p will boot with the NumLk off, but it comes back on while booting WinXP :(

This also happens on coming out of hibernate as well. Very annoying.

I occasionally use Remote Desktop Connection client from the desktop to connect to my Thinkpad occasionally. It does turn on NumLk automatically. I wonder if it got "stuck" that way.

TIA,

yuki
