Video dim when I swap motherboards on Transnote

#1 Post by kckc » Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:42 pm

Hello -

I am in the process of replacing the motherboard on my IBM Transnote, and am having a video problem.

The old board has a corrupted bios - when I boot, I can see the IBM setup screen perfectly on the lcd. After a while I get the dreaded "Error 0175 Bad CRC1"- which is why I am swapping out the motherboard.

When I install the replacement motherboard, I can only see the boot screen very, very faintly (really just the white "Thinkpad" logo). The replacement board seems to work fine when I hook it up to an external monitor (on the external monitor, not the lcd).

I have swapped the boards back and forth numerous times, always checking the connections, and making sure the bios settings are ok, and it is always the same - old board: normal video; replacement board: very dim video.

Normally, one might blame the lcd's inverter or back light, but since they function fine with the old board, I don't think that's the issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this video problem on the replacement board?

Thanks!

Sounds like the new board isn't powering the LCD properly. I'd check the connections and contacts from the LCD to the motherboard, making sure they're solid and clean with no bent pins.

I tried cleaning all the connections, but there is no visible improvement.

Very frustrating!
