Wireless turning off
Wireless turning off
I am using a Belkin card with my T23. Every few minutes the wireless card turns off and I have to launch the Thinkvantage Access Connections software and tell it to re-connect. I set the DCHP lease on my router to expire every 3 days so I know that's not the problem (double check before posting too). So do you guys have any idea's? This is really annoying.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I just installed an Asante XG card. It worked just fine in my Powerbook. Slip it into the thinkpad and it too drops the signal. IBM Access Connections is no help either.
Is there some power control software that could be turning off my PCMCIA cards after a certain amount of time.

Could be. I had trouble with a D-Link WLan card on a T-20 but found out the card generates quite a bit of heat in operation. Used a remote thermal probe in the lower mini PC card slot and ran two tests, one with the WLan card installed, one without the card. Without the card, there was still a considerable amount of heat in the mini PC card slot. Since then the old WLan card failed and I bought another but have not had any problems with the new card. The new card gets plenty warm too but has not dropped out once.Anyone?
I find it weird that I am experiencing the same problem with 2 different cards from varying manufacturers. I haven't tried the lower slot in my T23 yet. I'll give that a try.
So before I nuke the HD and re-load the OS does anyone out there have some ideas?

So I can safely assume that no one here has any idea on how to solve my problem.
S'okay though. I was hoping to avoid the typical re-install every time there is a problem. I bought an IBM because I was told that they work better. Shoulda got a mac.
In the meantime though, I will re-install XP and see if works. I switched wireless routers and am still having the same problem.

Temetka, sounds like your at the end of your rope. Before I got the intel daughter card for my t30 I needed a quick wireless solution, bought a DLink PCMCIA, installed it and the first time my machine came out of hibernation gave me the BSOD
Tried the driver reinstall blah blah the only way to work around it was to pull the card and insert it after it came out of hibernation. It had other connectivity issues as well, no where near the range or consistency of the embedded. Anyhow I was just wondering if you had tried switching the card to the other slot, sort of hot swap it, or tried not using access connections at all, and let windows configure the connection. I know you probably have SP2 but there was an issue I read about some time ago about XP randomly loosing wirelese connectivity. Could you possibly have a failing PCMCIA slot. I don' tknow if you have the option of a daughter card for wireless but that would be nice. There also are the USB wireless devices that are fairly inexpensive too. Just some more stuff to think about hope you get it working soon.
I have XP Pro SP2 running on this otherwise fine piece of hardware. I have tried the card in both slots. I have tried 2 completely different cards in both slots. I installed IBM's software because XP was dropping my connections. I was hoping that the Thinkvantage Software might help to solve the issue. No luck.
So I am going to back up my stuff and re-load the OS. I had to reload it a couple of months ago due to some funky internet explorer configurations problem and logging into my school's IE (and PC) only web site. What's truly bazar is that my Athlon64 tower had no problems. I say odd because all the settings were the same between the two.
I seriously hope that reloading the OS on my T23 does not become a routine. I haven't had to re-load XP on my tower in over a year. It still runs fast heck.

Reloaded the OS. I am on the wireless network right now. Here's to hoping it stays connected from now on.

It's with crossed fingers that I am able to report that XP no longer drops my wireless connection. I have re-loaded all my apps and utils. Created a system restore point in case something funky this way comes.
I would give someone else's right arm to know what got screwed up in the first place however.
