R50e hard drive upgrade

#1 Post by stuartf » Mon Dec 19, 2005 3:55 pm

I am getting this with the 40gb 4200 hard drive. I intend to put this one in my older Gateway, its drive is starting to groan a bit.

I have read much here about hard drive replacements, I am a bit confused. Can I use any ATA drive in it? I am looking for a reliable 60-80 gb 5400 drive, any suggestions??

Yes you can use 5400 RPM Hard disk drive . :)
Rather, buy a DVD-writer if your buying for data.
Sooner u'll feel that even upgraded 80 GB hdd is
not enough for you. 1 dual DVD contains 8.5 space.
DVD writer is worth than buying a new 80 gb hdd. 8)

Yes you're gonna buy an ATA drive. I just upgraded my R51 with a 60G 5400rpm one and it works much faster than the OEM Fujitsu drive. It's worth a try. Remember to download all drivers from IBM's Website. Do the NIC driver first enables you to link to IBM's site for further download. Software Installer will make thing much easier for you. Good luck!
