Trackpoint problem

#1 Post by pcnoob » Tue Dec 20, 2005 1:31 pm

Hi, my tp600's trackpoint has a problem.

Sometimes it would move by itself. It slowly drifts up to the upper left corner of the screen and it would do that for a minute sometimes and a few seconds some other times.

I have windows xp pro installed on this thinkpad. Is my tp600's trackpoint starting to break apart or is this common with windows xp?

I've had/have the same problem on all my 770 series machines, running XP Pro and all versions of Win95/98. Sometimes I can go for long periods without it happening, other times it happens more often. Pressing any key on the keyboard seems to stop the movement after a second or two; I usually press ESC so as to avoid typing unwanted characters. I too, wish I knew what causes it.

Impending trackpoint failure.. I have had this happen on all my ThinkPads to daye and within 1 month to a year, the trackpoint lost it's mind.. Id try using it, and it would dart all over the screen, this way and that.. Eventually, the BIOS noticed and wouldn't allow me to boot..

Like I said, it can last like this forever, or could die now.. Good luck guys..

This isn't a darting all over the screen, it's a slow movement toward the upper right. I've had this problem on occasion for at least 8 years.
