seems like i just had to change it to some other settings and change it back, apply it, and the standby feature worked right away.

One tip. I am sure most people here would prefer it if you post your solution in the same thread as where you posted the problem. No need to start a new thread, and besides, it's less confusing for readers that may have missed your original post with the problem.

It's a pretty common mistake to hit the "new topic" button, which is inconveniently placed next to the "post reply" button.

At a forum where I used to be a moderator we solved the issue by removing the "new topic" button from the thread display. That way you could only create new threads from the thread index page.
