A20M Stanby/Hibernate

#1 Post by nickburns » Wed Dec 21, 2005 9:47 pm

Hello All,
My precious A20M finally got the restore disk last weekend after years of cluttering up. I didn't do it because I was having problems, just thought is was time to start over again. After the restore completed (W2k) and all service packs and updates were applied, everything worked just fine including standby and hibernate. After installing Office 2003, I lost the options for hibernate and standby. At least thats when I recall loosing those options. I have tried everything, and I do mean everything, from installing all of the latest updates from IBM/Lenovo to searching the net for hours on end. Even have the latest BIOS updates. Under power options I have no tab for hibernate nor do I have any standby choices. Everything else on the laptop works fine. I'm hoping someone else has run into this at some point. I know its a file or files but just can't pinpoint it. Any help is appreciated.

The Microsoft Knowledgebase has reference to such problems being caused by antivirus softwere running as services. You might try shutting down any non-Microsoft serices or any services associated with Office.

Unfortunately, I've tried all of the usual options such as disabling devices and services to no avail.....Thanks though.

Are you sure IBM PM has been also reinstalled?

Make sure IBM Power Management has been installed. It manages to control the options of Hibernation/Standby. Go to Control Panel -> Systems -> Device Manager and make sure there's no any questioned devices.
