xml on C drive T41p

#1 Post by akhavan » Thu Dec 22, 2005 8:29 am

Hi,

On my T41p I have sSupportWeb.xml and IBMAgent.xml does anybody know what they are for and if it is safe to delete them.

I'm still trying to resolve my Event type errors

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 12/16/2005
Time: 18:01:06
User: N/A
Computer: T41P
Description:
The PMEM service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I have narrowed done the PMEM to these two files, although I do not know which program created them. Anybody have any idea?
Thanks

Sepehr

You can view xml files with Internet Explorer, Wordpad or Notepad. FWIW, I don't have IBMAgent.xml or sSupportWeb.xml on my T42.

please post links to the files or the contents of the files themselves. You can open them with notepad or IE then just do a copy / paste.

Thanks.

I have checked both files and they give very detailed information regarding my T41P including every hardware, all installed softwares (model) and all Hot fixes from window etc. I have felling that they were installed by Acess IBM.

Now my question is what happens if I delete them.

I believe egatherer created these files. There is a file called egather2.exe that collects system information.

IBM eGatherer version 2.42.x - Servers

I have to agree that this file was probably created by eGatherer. If so, the first line in the file will be something like

Code: Select all

  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <EG_GATHERED_DATA>
- <EG_GATHERER_VERSION>
  <EG_MY_PATH>C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\IbmEgath.dll</EG_MY_PATH>
  <EG_MY_VERSION>3, 0, 0, 9</EG_MY_VERSION>
  <EG_MY_LANGUAGE>IBM Access Support Plugin EN</EG_MY_LANGUAGE>
....
The easiest way to install eGatherer without realizing it is if you click the "Detect my system option" at the IBM.COM site when trying to find drivers/check warranty status etc etc.

Yep, delete to your hearts' content. Next time you go to IBM.com, eGatherer will re-create the file.
