XPPro - offline files suddenly not available

#1 Post by Nolonemo » Fri Dec 23, 2005 10:42 am

I am running XP Pro SP2 on a T22. I have a drive mapped to the TP, with the "make files available offline" option active for some of the folders on the mapped drive.

I did some maintenance on the desktop, which involved replacing the mapped drive (and moving all the data on it to the new drive). I also set the drive letter and name for the new drive to match the old drive, and set sharing permissions for the new drive. I'm pretty sure that I was able to access mapped drive across the network after the change.

I started up the T22 this morning with the desktop turned off, but I can't access the local copies of the files in the folders in the mapped drive that should be available offline. I should be seeing the local "ghost" of the mapped drive, but instead I get an error window that says "J is not accessible. Access is denied."
2 questions:

1. WTF is going on?

2. The local copies must be stored on the T22 somewhere, but where? A search of "my computer" for the name of a file I know returns no hits.

My big concern is that I did some work on the T22 while disconnected after the desktop change, I don't want to have the cache of local files wiped out and lose the work...

Thanks for any help.

I've seen this kind of thing before, when you copy files from one drive to another, your permissions get lost. You should be able to get your files back by following the link in my post in the thread below.

Yeah, wierd thing is that I already reset the permissions (b/c I couldn't access the new drive over the network), and I'm almost certain that afterwards I could navigate to the drive & folders from the T22 in windows exporer.
