Big lag time logging in user and loading icons!

#1 Post by halfcard » Fri Dec 23, 2005 5:36 pm

T41

anyone help on this? the background pic comes on but the icons seem to take a couple of minutes before they show up. this has been happening for over a week now.

i have 1 gb ram, mostly i just run a distributed computing program on all the time, and do internet.

i have no viruses or spyware. no giant files on my desktop. i defragmented, cleaned up disk.

'rambooster' shows about 650 mb free ram.

i have windows antispyware, avg antivirus running. and the usual ibm stuff i keep updated from lenovo.

I've seen simular behavior when the laptop is trying to acquire a wireless connection on bootup. Try right-clicking on the wireless adapter in Network Connections, and choose disable. Now see if the bootup time is faster. If it is, reenable it, and try the tip below.

I found that if I have the Wireless Zero Configuration service set to Automatic and Started, this can make a big difference on bootup times. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to near the bottom to find the Wireless Zero Configuration service and change it's settings.
