600E defaults to external display Help!!

#1 Post by Maineiac » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:39 am

I tried everything short of throwing it out the window.
I flashed it to the latest BIOS and it still defaults to the external monitor.

I know there has to be a trick to changing it back to the LCD but i cant
seem to figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. Try Fn+F7. This key combination should cycle through your displays -> LCD only, External VGA only, LCD+External together.

2. If that doesn't work, then try using the ThinkPad Configuration utility and changing the display setting in there.

Installed the utility and set just LCD and the default still loads up on the external monitor. This is really strange. Now with Windows 2000 installed
after the post i switch to LCD using Fn+F7 but when it reaches the Windows 2000 logo and starts to load the LCD goes blank and the only display is the external monitor.

Sounds to me that you need to uninstall, then reinstall the display adapter driver (Video in chart). Download from link below, and be sure and follow the instructions carefully in the accompanying text file (readme file).

One quick, possibly silly question......have you checked to see if the switch that tells the 600E that the LCD is open, is stuck? It is the one in the upper right hand side of the keyboard. It might be stuck in the "closed" position, which would automatically send everything to the external monitor.

Good point! I didn't think of that.

Oh god you're great man .... btw the switch on the 600E is upper left of the keyboard next to the IBM logo, i guess someone spilled something and it was stuck solid. Nothing a pair of tweezers and some alcohol couldnt cure. Its working fine now i'll remember this one.
