R51 Part broken

Since 6 months i have an Thinpad R51 2887-K2G. Now i broke the pin who put the lcd backligt off when closing the screen.

I contacted IBM/Lenovo and they told me that the only way to get this fixed is pay for it. Because IBM called USER ABUSE.

Now i have 2,5 years warranty left and i don't wanna pay so much for a little pin.

So my questions:
- Can i replace this myself without losing the warranty?
- What is the part number?

May be a silly question...did you lose the pin? Can you glue it back in place (since IBM is refusing to cover it under warranty)?

The pin on my ThinkPad broke too but I glued it back. This happened when I was in school, my ThinkPad was in my backpack and it fell and then I picked up my backpack and opened it to see if my ThinkPad was okay, it was but I found out that the pin broke and I glued it back when I got home.

I didn't lose the pin. It's now in a plastic bag.

So when i would like to replace the part i need to replace the whole cover of the screen?
But will i keep my warranty when i replace my cover?
