part number for t43p CTO model?

#1 Post by tumorim » Sat Dec 24, 2005 10:42 pm

I owned three Dells but I want to switch to thinkpad now, after trying one machine in Office Depot and after reading so many positive reviews. I was trying to order a CTO model, but there is really no information in tabook on what is the part number. Through internet searches and through reading forums, and through randomly typing numbers in the part number box (do not laugh at me, but I did find several working ones), I found many many t43 CTO machines with varying prices, for example, 2668AJU, 2668BJU, 2686E7U...) I only found one t43p model (2687E4U), but it is a 15inch model. I am wondering does anybody know the part number for a t43p CTO machine that has 14 inch display? (by the way, 10 minutes ago the order system suddenly stops working for CTO models, but I think it must be a temporary problem, since I have used it for several days.

What site are you usng for CTO ordering? I think its much easier to call them, and it is possible to get barebone sytems. It all depends on who you talk to, but people seem to be able to get CTOs.

I was ordering from a special channel in ibm's website, by directly typing the part number in the "know the part number" box. I called them once but they said there is only t43 CTO but not t43p CTO; however I did find one t43p CTO. I just do not like the screen size. I will call again and hopefully this time get a better answer.

I called twice but the sales representatives obviously do not really know too much about CTO. They actually asked me for the part number if I want to order something.

Since the information is not available anywhere, I think it is a good idea for me to list all I know, in case somebody else might be interested in ordering a CTO.

t43: 2687E3U 2687E8U 2687E9U 2687EHU 2668AJU 2668BJU

t43p: 2687E4U 2687EJU

t42: 2373H5U 2378RUU

t42p: 2378RVU

All "p" CTO models are 15 inch UXGA models. No 14 inch models are available, as far as I know.

[DUH]What's "CTO" mean?[/DUH] I keep seeing this, but presumed it was a channel like EPP, CPP,....

TIA.

CTO means Configure-To-Order; so you essentially build your Thinkpad as you like it from a "barebones" setup if I understand correctly. :)
