z60m wireless problem

#1 Post by proton » Sun Dec 25, 2005 3:37 pm

My Z60M arrived yesterday, after 2 months wait. I cannot get the wireless networking working on it.

Does anyone have a problem like that?

Basically, it works okay on wired network. Wireless network at my home has no problem because I connect my old laptop to it.

This has to do with z60m being unable to get IP number assigned. It is either 0.0.0... or 169.254 etc...

I disabled the firewall, removed/reinstalled the driver for wireless network adapter etc. I tried all the troubleshooting steps listed at ibm's site.

Still the same problem.

does anyone have any clue? I would appreciate some help here.

To troubleshoot your problem, first of all, disable any wireless security features in your router. Make sure your router and Z60m are both using the same protocol - either a, b, or g. Turn off the power on the router and on the laptop. Power both back up. Using your laptop, scan for wireless networks - you should see your router. Tell it to connect. After you establish a connection, then work on setting up security. WPA2 1st choice, WPA 2nd choice, WEP 3rd choice, none last choice. Try to use WPA2 or WPA.

If you still cannot connect, try repairing the Winsock.

The 169 IP is a default issued by windows when it cannot find a DHCP server, sounds more like your DHCP in your router might be disabled, check the web browser function and if it is disabled give yourself a static IP for your wireless connection within the subnet of the router to test it out.
