Hello,
I've come to love and depend on my trackpoint/trackpoint scroller (I got my Thinkpad X41 a few months ago). Unfortunately, today I got a Kensington trackball that comes with "MouseWorks" software that allows you to use a lot of special features of the trackball. After I installed the software, the trackpoint scrolling feature completely stopped working. I've already tried the following things:
0. The problem first started when I had the trackball in and I tried to use the trackpoint. The mouse pointer got really confused and started acting strangely, so i rebooted. This made it so the trackpoint worked but the scrolling didn't. I tried removing the trackball but the trackpoint scrolling still didn't work. Then I tried
1. Uninstalling the Mouseworks software. the strange thing is that once I did this the trackpoint wouldn't work at all but the trackball still worked just fine (though its special features weren't all usable).
2. Then I reinstalled the MouseWorks software. the trackpoint started working again, but the scrolling still didn't work.
3. I tried uninstalling the trackpoint driver and reinstalling it. This did absolutely nothing.
4. I used the troubleshooter on my thinkpad and it was unable to help.
5. I used Lenovo's trouble shooter (on their website); it had me remove the trackball and reboot, download some new drivers and install them, and also adjust the settings but none of it helped.
Ideally I would like to be able to use the MouseWorks software and have the trackpoint/scroller still work when I'm not using the trackball, but in the worst case I'd like to at least get back to where I started (i.e. without MouseWorks but with working trackpoint/trackpoint scrolling).
Any ideas? Thanks!
trackpoint scrolling doesn't work any more!!
Re: trackpoint scrolling doesn't work any more!!
Well, you definately created some sort of XP registry glitch, unfortunately there may be no way to find the affected keys. Start by doing a regedit and looking for "Kensington" or "Mouseworks" keys. Something in the Kensington intstall obviously overwrote IBM/Lenovo keys. Other than a complete restore of the factory install I have no ideas, and if you did that, you would not want to re-install the Kensington software at all.

working again!!
Thanks for your advice, Andrew. Unfortunately, I didn't see it until I had already fixed the problem, about 5 minutes ago. I actually logged on to post that I managed to mostly fix my problem and saw your post at that time.
Here's what I did in the end:
I downloaded the thinkpad trackpoint driver installer, uninstalled the Kensington software, rebooted, and then (without a working mouse) installed the thinkpad trackpoint drivers. It works again -- hooray! Now, as you point out, I'm back to where I started and still can't use the Kensington software but at least I have my scrolling again.
