Installing IIS on XP Tablet

#1 Post by Yotam » Tue Dec 27, 2005 4:44 pm

Hi,

It has been long time since my last visit here (study...)

I tried to install IIS on my tablet and failed. The installation tries to copy files that are exist in C:\I386 (I kept all OS and IBM files as they were installed), but for some reason behaves like the file is not compatible or not actually there.
It asks me to insert Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD. Since I don't have one, I tried to do it with a "normal" XP cd I have (not SP2), but it doesn't work although the files are existed on this CD also.
Does anyone know how can I do it? (I also tried each one of the recovery CDs)

Thanks!!

Well, the Tablet was never, ever intended to be a server, purely a workstation.
I don't doubt for a minute that it would fail to install or fail to work properly if installed.

Tablet is a normal PC which can be used as a server. I have always had web/database services running on wide array of regular desktops/laptops for testing purposes. Including my X30. Tablet is no different, IIS doesn't really care on what exactly it runs.

edit: Unless the XP Tablet edition prohibits it specifically... Does it?

As for original poster - does it look for any specific files? Do you actually have those files under i386? If your applications are not IIS/ASP specific you might as well run Apache with required modules.

Hi aabram,

I need the IIS for ASP jobs.
The files are existed in C:\I386, and also on my XP cd, but the installation behaves like these files are not there. Although when I do "browse" I see the file, it still asks me to look for it on XP SP 2 CD.

The tablet edition should be the same as the professional edition, isn't it?

Thanks.
