600E HDD Upgrade, XPP, & 2nd HDD SlimBay

FYI:
600E "8BU", 224meg....Just upgraded old 10GB HD to 40GB, 5k80 Hitachi fom ZipZoomFly ($95 w/ 2nd Day Air Free!) Full XXP install.

Result:
Man, is that drive quiet and fast! Almost as noticeable performance enhancement as adding a bunch of memory.

Questions:
I'd like to use the old 10GB drive in the SlimBay Adapter to transfer over files & then as B/U. Note: Old Drive=FAT32 New Drive=NTFS

1) Does the adapter require the HD to be in a HDD Caddy?

2) Do the jumpers need attention and adjustment before inserting drive to adapter? If so, how is this accomplished?

3)Will my main drive recognize old drive as just another Drive & assign a drive letter? If not, is there a link to info for this integration?

As usual, ANY and ALL assistance or advice is VERY much appreciated.

KC

PS- FWIW, I also added DLink "Super G" Wireless PC Cardbus Adapter, DWL G650, and DI 624 Wireless Broadband Router for transfer speeds of over 108 Mbps.

1) Nope, best to leave the shield on the bottom of the drive though, to prevent possible shorts.

2) Nope.

3) This is really up to your operating system. Assuming you're running XP or 2000 (both can recognize FAT32) you should see it as another drive. Sometimes you can run into trouble if Windows tries to assign it a letter already in use by a mapped / optical drive, but you can work that out in disk management.
