Hard disk problem....

#1 Post by rogermagic » Thu Dec 29, 2005 11:09 am

I have a thinkpad model 600E 2645-5JU
I installed win XP Pro on it and is working fine.... i want to upgrade the HDD from 10GB to 30GB...

I bought a Hitachi HDD (Travelstar 30GB 4200rpm) once i put it in the machine the bios gives me error 1780

My bios is the newest inet36ww

Any suggestions? Does my pc support 30GB? Any ideas or suggestions to let this HD work? Is it possible the HD is defective ? i bought it from ebay...

Any input is highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

According to IBM's Site:
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... selected=5

It appears that the drive might be bad, but you might want to try to reseat the drive and see if it makes a difference.

Edit: IBM also indicates that it could be the system board, but seeing that your original hard drive works, I am going to assume that the problem does relate to the new hard drive (ie. bad drive, or needs reseating)
