Software installer, cant get it to work ?

#1 Post by slasko » Thu Dec 29, 2005 3:51 pm

Hey

When i try to get updates from the software installer i get an error message that says "this packet can not be transferred".

It downloads the update twice before the error apears, have anyone experienced this failure before?

which package is the software installer trying to update? you might need to uninstall/delete the original package if its corrupted for some reason.

Its not only one single update, its all the availeble updates i have tryid to select only one update at a time but it dosent work. Neither of the updates can be installed despite the fact that it downloads it twice?

Ive now tryid to uninstall the active protection system, and the software installer can see that and tryes to download it twice and ends in a failure.

Everytime i start up the software installer then its like its being installed again because there is a licence agreament everytime(or is this normal?)

First of all, make sure your firewall is not the cause of the problem.

Next you can go to the following site to get Software Installer again. I would uninstall Software Installer then download and install Software Installer from below. If you still have problems, you can still manually download your drivers and software from the site below.

Thanks Gomjabber

But i have already tyid that, my firewall and antivirus disabled and uninstalled the sofware updater and run a regcleaner to remove any hidden registers, then download and install the software updater again from ibm´s website. It dosent work :(

Ive also tryid and download the active protection software manually and installed that, but that dosent work either, im lost??

What could be wrong :?:

If you have a missing serial number, that may cause the problem. Go into the BIOS setup menu, and verify that the serial number field is not blank.

To enter the BIOS: starting with the laptop turned off, turn on the laptop and press the F1 key about once per second until you get into the BIOS menu.

Hey happy new year :)

I have been into BIOS now and i do have a system-unit serial nubmer and a system-board serial number and something called UUID number.

So that cant be the problem unfortunatly :(

Boot up into Safe Mode. Right-click on the Start button and choose Explore. Navigate to the C:\DRIVERS directory. Right-click on the C:\DRIVERS folder and choose Properties > Security. Verify that your user account is listed and that is has full control.

Note that you have to be logged on as Administrator to use Software Installer.

Hmm i cant seem to boot into safe mode? After i selected the safe mode it loads a moment and then sits still with black screen and a _ blinking in the left corner.

I have also tryid and interupt startup with the blue access button but that dosent work either, i think i maybee should re-install the entire thing to get things strait.

But thanks for the inputs anyway :)

Safe mode takes quite a while on my system. A bunch of drivers fly by, then a minute (feels like eternity) before GUI loads.

are you using Software Installer version 3.15.xxxx ? Do you see more than 1 installation in add/remove programs?
