Keyboard difference???

#1 Post by Stingray » Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:15 pm

Hi guys….
Is there a difference between the keyboard on the 14.1” and the 15” models?
I have typed on the 15” one… and it has probably the BEST key strokes I have ever experienced.

As far as I know the keyboards are exactly the same. Now the holes are different on the bottom so they're not interchangable, but they are the same otherwise.

You will notice that there are (3) keyboard manufacturers for T4x Series ThinkPads.

Keyboard service parts - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p

There are three different keyboards that can be fitted onto the T Series models. I believe this applies for the 14.1" models and the 15" models as well.

Here is a thread that could help:

Also, more threads on this subjec can be found by searching the forums ;)

Agreed. But they each make the same keyboard for both 14.1" and 15" models and then attach different hole posts in the bottom. It comes down to which manufacturer you prefer, but then when you place your order there's no guarantee which part number you will receive, even if you order the exact same laptop model number. I've seen one friend order the exact same model laptop as another friend because he loved the laptop and keyboard, but when it was received the keyboard was from a different manufacturer (probably because they weren't manufactured near the same date).

So in general, do they use the same keyboards? Yes. Are you sure which of the 3 manufacturers you will receive. No. I'd suggest finding out which manufacturer you prefer, then if it does not come on your laptop call and ask for a part exchange during the first week or so after delivery.

Good Luck!
