T40 HDD Failure. Need help with data recovery.
My T40 HDD (Hitachi 80GB, 4200RPM) recently failed and was swiftly replaced by IBM support.
Thankfully I had an Acronis image from the end of July so I was up and running in a few days (we had a baby in August so backups were the last things on my mind).
I am looking to attempt data recovery from my failed disk, but need the exact same model drive.
Searching the web yielded one parts vendor, Impact Computers in FL, that made lots of promises to me but in the end could not deliver the part they advertised online. Dealing with them wasted two weeks of my time on this critical project.
Anyone have any experience or pointers to reliable used parts vendors?
You can see the details of the HDD in my post in the WTB/WTS forum,

Thank you and Happy New Year!

If Absloute Raleigh can handle the data recovery in-house they only charge $100.mdarnton wrote:You have another option?
Alternatively, there might be someone here willing to part with their 08K9863 80gig 4200rpm drive for little less, say $162.99, and spend it on a brand new 80gig 7200rpm 7K100 from Newegg. I would if I had one.
