Z60m ordering experience

#1 Post by a31pguy » Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:45 pm

Ordered on 12/12/05. Website said it was in stock. After processing the order on the next business day - it estimated the ship date as 1/13/05. On 12/23/05 called and asked for split shipment. Customer rep said the order department would email me a status. On 1/1/05 - just got a confirmation that the system has been shipped UPS - 2 day on 12/30/05.

Memory upgrade is in Kentucky in customs. The other is in Ontario in-transit. Should be here any day. This is not bad - since trying to order my a31p back in the day was a 30-45 day experience at least.

Are you saying a part of, or your whole order was shipped? Dont count on "2-day", more like a week and a half.

Mine was shipped on the 27th, via 2-day, delivery date pulled back to the 5th, thats 2 delays. Thats just the memmory, i dont even want to think how long the laptop will take, that was packing for a 2 weeks...

They shouldnt give out these special promotions if they wont hold up on the deal.

The whole order was shipped. But split in two shipments. One from China via Ontario, California and the other from Hong Kong via Louisville, Kentucky. UPS lists the memory as "THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY " - which tells me that it's has to be cleared by US Customs for proper tarriffs.

I know that China has some import restrictions on some types of electronic goods - it's might be that the memory is coming from Taiwan via Hong Kong and the central government is having a problem with that. So the memory is getting shipped directly to the US from warehouses in Hong Kong (since Hong Kong is a "Special Autonomous Region").

You're right - they shouldn't offer special deals that they are going to have problems delivering on.

I really didn't believe the 2-day shipping deal. I've shipped systems to italy and spain before "overnight" that ended up being a week with customs issues.

But it's better than the expected ship date of 1/13/05. The memory actually shipped 12/23/05. But I didn't get a confirmation until the system itself actually shipped. So all in all - I should probably expect it to show up somewhere around the original date - but it shipped earlier than I thought it would.

Right now your in a really good position, now just hope that it wont get lost in the warehouse. I ordered on the 10th, and have the shippment date of the 1/27. All in all i think to get everything that i ordered should take the full 2 month, nothing to brag about. I did get a warning of "6 weeks", but this will be almost 9, not something you would expect from the 3rd largest PC company.

My shippment is warehoused as well, for the 3rd time, lol

Mine was a ThinkExpress order - with a extended warranty and the free RAM upgrade. Simple and straightforward. I figure, either way, I'm going to customize it more when it gets here.

A quick follow up. Called UPS to get a status. After being transferred from international to domestic and back to international. I got a status. It's a customs hold and UPS has no control over it. Intstucted to call the shipper and get a status.

Called Levono. After giving my order ID - I was told that the shippment was bulk shipped with several other units in a shipping container. When the bulk shipment is broken out an inspected the order will ship and I should recieve it 1 day after releasing it from US Customs.

Estimated release date range is 1/6/06 to 1/9/06. Which translates to the earliest I'll get it will be 1/7/06 and the latest will be 1/10/06.

memory arrived today. Also heard that due to highten restrictions for bioterrorism - customs has more stringent rules in effect. Specifically with regards to FDA - becuase of the risk of avian bird flu.

Thats sounds like a pretty descent shipment time, at least for UPS :P . I got my memmory as well, unfortunatly after 2 delivery attempts they told me to pick it up at a place 45 minutes away. But the good news is the driver was nice enough to stop back, so I didnt have to waist so much gas just for a stick of memmory.

My thinkpad was also shipped on January 3rd, i expect the same wait time. The funny thing is, thanks to Lenovo my Thinkpad got an opportunity of a lifetime  , considering im in Ohio, it arried to KY from China and then about 2 hours later they manged to send it to Anchorage, Alsaka. It spend a day there, and came right back to the clering agency. I guess the Gov/UPS dont expect anything bad shipped to Alaska, so it only takes an hour in cutoms.
