Best DVD Multiburner for T42?
Best DVD Multiburner for T42?
Hi all, I've searched onto many older posts but I've not found the solution to my doubts.
I'm just ordering a T42 14,1" and I asked for a replacement of the CDRW-DVD with a DVD Multiburner.
I tried to look for the more recent unit released that should fit to the Ultrabay Slim of the T42 and I ended up with these 2 units:
- 92P6110: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... MIGR-55186
- 73P3343 (or 39T2507): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58635
The 2nd seems to be the better choice (writes both DVD+R/RW and DVD+R/RW).
I wasn't able to find any DVD-DL for the T42: I found it a bit strange as quite all consumer laptops out there carry a DVD dual layar multiburner...
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Stefano

Hi, you are right. The 'Plus' model is better since it writes both +R and -R discs, plus it is a bit faster in some modes...
However, none of these is specially fast or function-rich.. as a sample, what you found re. Dual layer media. Their unique point is that they are 9.5 mm thick and so are in the really small and selected group of DVD writers that fit in a T4x. (industy standard is 12.7 mm), so depending on what is your expected usage, you may end up better with an *external* USB unit.

MultiBurner + is the latest, and fastest. But I agree, an external unit with the new Light Scribe printing option, would be the best investment.

LightScribe in its present form isn't worth paying even one cent extra for, IMO!
Cheers,

Do you say this because of the speed? I just bought a HP LightScribe drive for my office machine and it all works great, however the disk labeling takes longer than the burn, so that is a problem if you are waiting. The quality is great and worth the wait for the few discs I burn.

Well I hope that you haven't made any purchases yet. I was looking through the IBM US Announcements yesterday, and they're announcing the ThinkPad Super Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive.

Thank you very much, davidspalding, as you may have saved me from a costly error.

In that case; this support page needs an update

Out of curiosity, I put in my Model Number (2668-72U) to see what compatible storage options existed; and it lists the Flat Bezel Optical Drive interestingly enough. This would be a conflict in documentation?

So have I; yet, if it is the same form factor throughout, you could theoretically take a T4X Bezel and "Snap" it on. Maybe, maybe not...Interesting to think about though.
