Why won't DVD-RW play in A31?

#1 Post by gartenmeister » Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:24 pm

Hi all, my first post here. I have what is probably a simple question, thanks in advance for your help!

Problem: Thinkpad A31 (2652-J3U) will play factory DVDs and DVD-Rs but not DVD-RWs. DVD drive is Hitachi. FRU P/N 27L4167 ASM P/N 27L4166.

Question #1: can I make the drive play DVD-RWs by updating its software? If so, what do I need?

Question #2: if the answer to #1 is "no," which A31-compatible DVD drive(s) should I buy?

Thanks!

Not an uncommon problem, but has nothing to do with the A31.

DVD-RW and CD-RW don't always work in other drives. If you want to be sure you can read a RW disk read it with the same drive that wrote it.

Using a different brand of disks could solve the problem or a different drive to write the disks.

If you are looking to upgrade your drive I would suggest a NEC multi-burner N6500 or N6650.
