The trackpoint "drifts" when I use it. I guess the best way I can describe it is it will randomly start to drift (pretty slowly) in the direction I was going. I thought it might be due to me pressing it too hard, but it happens even when I use it softly.

I've tried taking the rubber part off and reseating it, but that doesn't help. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Generally this sort of drifting happens because the trackpoint software tries to compensate for continuous pressure. Try not to have your finger on the trackpoint when you're not actually using it. That should fix the problem. When it does happen, just touch the touchpad and it'll stop.

This is a documented problem with Thinkpad trackpoints as well as some trackpoints on other machines that use the Synaptics trackpoint. For non thinkpad machines and non - thinkpad specific solutions, start here

This problem has been know for many years. The cause is a Zeroing issue with the trackpoint, when the system zeros (find home) and there is a slight amount of pressure on the rubber nib, this will cause the zero to be something other than zero. Once the pressure is released (finger removed) then the system will use this Non zero as home and hence the drift. If you just leave it alone, a new zero will be set and the drifting will stop. It just takes a little getting used to....

Does it continue if you lift your hands off the palmrest/keyboard? The latest UltraNav drivers/Wizard have a setting for palm pressure sensitivity in the vicinity of the Touchpad, as that can make the cursor "float." I've experienced it myself. I think it's cute. (But then, I think Kubrick's THE SHINING is a comedy, take that as an indication of my taste.)

Disabling the Touchpad will also help eliminate causes.

Thanks for the replies...I'm glad I'm not alone on this issue. It will continue for 2-3 seconds even if I completely remove my hands from the keyboard/trackpoint/trackpad. The only way to get it to stop quickly is to apply pressure in the opposite direction that it is drifting.

Happens to me every now and then. Just leave it alone for 2-3 seconds and it stops. Shouldn't be a problem under any circumstances.
