T42 Plugged in wireless great! On Battery, very poor. Why?

#1 Post by hailwood1965 » Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:55 am

My T42 with both wireless and bluetooth is a nice little machine, powerful, handy and bulletproof. The wireless performance when the unit is plugged into the wall is good. Not great, good, sufficient. But when I try to actually use the unit as a portable and take it a few feet away (actually closer to the AP) unplugged, it barely has any wireless performance at all. It can't find the AP, won't log on, etc.

I have switched to some different power schemes to try and cure this with no luck. As it is now this computer won't connect to the internet via Wireless when it's off the wall.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you checked what power save mode the Wireless is on? That affects the signal strength somewhat. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

In Access Connections 4.0x, go to Locations > Manage Profiles... > highlight your Wireless profile > choose Profile Action > Edit... > Wireless Settings > under 5. Advanced configuration, choose Settings > under Power save mode:, choose Low (best network performance). Hopefully this will fix your problem.
