Too cotton pickin' many BAYS

#1 Post by 440roadrunner » Wed Jan 04, 2006 8:32 pm

Can someone point to some chart, etc, that defines any interchangeability for the various Thinkpad Bays?

My 600X is "Ultraslimbay"

I guess there's also Ultrabay, Ultrabay2000, I don't know what else. What all can you utilize?

Short version: None of the other bay modules will work with your Ultraslim Bay. The Ultra Bay, Ultra Bay 2000, etc are all different. I've got every bay module built for the Ultraslim Bay so I use the Portable Drive Bay (FRU #37L1513) to carry those options over to my X30 and TransNote. Much simpler than getting all new drives, and while the PDB 2000 allows USB connections, not having it is no big deal since I don't have USB 2.0 on most of the machines.

Thanks, I have one 600X, will soon have another. I recently bought an empty "Travelstar 8E" and finally found DOS based drivers to make it work--turns out it's actually made by "Shining Technologies" and that allows me to make use of my stock of 3 or so "too tall" hdd's that won't fit the HDD bay on the 600X
