the lead-time on the T60 is 45 business days... that's 9 weeks! I'll be at CES tomorrow so I'll check them out then.

I'm also curious to know what the difference is between the X60 and the X60s. Does any one know?

X60s is slimmer and uses Ultra-Low-Voltage processors, which save battery power, but aren't quite as fast. Dual-core processors will only be available at the X60, not the X60s.

The link I posted earlier from Lenovo's site shows the T60 uses the Ultrabay Slim expansion bay.

The screen on the first model is a 14.1" TFT XGA. I would suspect it is basically the same one as on my T42 model.

anandtech previews the T60 (skip to page 15) http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=2663

Has a wireless on/off switch!!
the arrow keys also function as play/pause/stop/FF/etc..
seems that the microphone might have been moved near the Fn key (not a good idea IMO)
The volume up/down/mute buttons aren't as cool looking, and they're not shiny

I don't like the external antenna on the right hand side of the screen and the keyboards look cheap and nasty. It' certainly a massive step back from the rounded keys on the T4x series keyboard.
The external antenna is for WAN only - so if you don't want that you won't have this.

But I don't get your cheap and tacky comments as it looks the same quality as T4* to me nor do I get the point about rouded keys - the keyboard keys look the same to me other than the cosmetic change (colour/font).

Well I can't tell for sure until I see one in the flesh. It's not that bad though - just not much different to the T4x series, which is not a bad thing I guess....

The keyboard is different though.

AnandTech had an interesting preview of a T60 and they say that the keyboard is still superb...

I brought up the smaller ultra nav keys, it's really not a way for them to cut corners but instead they got feedback and did usability tests indicating that the buttons are too big and prone to accidental strikes. Never a problem for me, but I take their word. As far as the non-grey buttons on the Function keys, the taking away of the blue and red stripe on the mouse buttons and silver power button -- that was also a conscious design move as they said in surveys most business users preferred less color on the keyboard area, especially their European user base, who they said much preferred more black and grey and less of the different color tones. Honestly, they're doing everything for a reason with thought behind it and not just to save a $1 here and there.

I personally would have preffered that the mouse buttons stay colored as on most ThinkPads in the past. I also really don't like the wedge design (where the computer can't lay flat, originally seen on the G series) that they decided to incorporate on the X60.

Other than that, I think the new computers look pretty nice. I personally think that the X41 and the T4x look nicer than the X60 and T60 but that's not to say the new ThinkPads look bad, it's just saying the X41 and T4x look really nice.
