Another concern

#1 Post by ThinkPadNewbie » Tue Jul 13, 2004 10:27 am

I was thinking about the whole process. Well, what do you guys think about deleting the "hidden part". From my understanding, it houses the recovery and diagnostics. So, after I do the whole thing, there will be no recovery or rapid recovery from my HD, right? I wonder if the "access" button will still be functioning since I will delete everything.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks again!

It'll still work in Windows to launch the Access IBM "e-guide" to your ThinkPad.

Without the partition, there'll be nothing to load on boot up - so if you press the blue button "To interrupt normal startup.." you'll no longer have the Rescue and Recovery area. You'll be presented with 3 options 1) Enter the BIOS 2) Choose a boot device 3) Continue booting normally.

Even if you remove the Hidden partition it can be recreated with the recovery CDs. I would not advise removing the hidden partition without FIRSTLY having a set of recovery cds (either burned yourself or from IBM)

Okay, I guess I have some idea of what I am going to do. But, still I feel a bit risky. I don't know if it's worth the risk to gain a few GBs...

Anyway, thanks again. I'll burn the recovery disks first. After all, there is no hurt to do that.
