#1 Post by Leon » Tue Jul 13, 2004 11:06 am

Sending it in... they are actually not sending it to IBM, but to a company called Solectron.....? Should I worry?

I think you don't need to worry. Hope you get it back soon.

Leon... best of luck with your repair. I've had a horrendous experience with IBM's EZServ and my T42p. Read about it here:

Oh yes, Solectron. Yes you should worry very much. It will come back with a new system board I bet and your problem won't be fixed. Solectron had my T23 twice and they replaced the system board twice which was NOT the problem as I stated to them on the phone and in a letter I put in the thinkpad before I closed the lid and sent it to them. They also left screws out of the thinkpad. Guy put it back together and stuck it in the box then realized he had leftover screws and said "Screw it, its Miller time".

So your T42P was botched twice - are they going to send someone to you to fix it now?

I'm waiting to find out. It's still waiting for a new system board (the problem is with the LCD, but for some reason my machine is going through another system board).

I find out tomorrow whether the new system board arrived. If all goes well I should have my machine by Thursday, if not, then Friday. Now, I'm hoping the LCD ghosting matter is fixed when it gets back and the machine is in pristine working condition. If not, I've already got a few phone numbers at IBM to give a piece of my mind to.

From what I was told by 'Gold Support' if the machine comes back and it's not right, I can file a formal complaint and then there'll be someone who will work with me to resolve it by way of either giving me a new machine or any other solution that'll make me feel satisfied.

Now, the long and painful process of 'waiting to see what they do' has begun. I love my machine and I love IBM, but if IBM screws up the service on their latest greatest laptop they are going to have hell to pay.

If they screw it up twice then they will give you a brand new machine of your choosing.

followup question:

if when I get my repair back, I'm not happy and decide to EXCHANGE it for an identical one, (I'm still within the 30 days, and don't have enough CC$$ for return/reorder), does the 30 day evaluation clock start again on receipt of the new unit?

Yes, it does. That's a nice feature of IBM!

if anyone's interested here's an update.

my machine's still waiting a new system board- because the one they put in broke within 5 mins- and the LCD problem is still unresolved. the ETA on the board has been 'tomorrow' for the past 2 days. (by 'tomorrow' i don't mean friday, 7/16).

so, i've now filed a formal complaint with IBM and hopefully come tomorrow (Friday) there'll be a resolution.

oh how i hate bad service.
