And since I never use more then 512mb (my current X31 is to fast for me

) I wont have that problem.

Hell, I am crazy, why do I buy an X60s ... while I have an X31 with more then enoug speed and a 7200rpm hdd?.... because I want to lol...

Come on, the speed difference between a 1.8" drive and a 2.5" drive isn't that significant. I guess it depends on the kind of stuff you're doing. I have used 4200, 5400 and 7200 rpm drives on my X22 and X31. Moving from 4200 to 7200 was indeed noticeable. However, I found that the 7200 rpm (Hitachi) drive caused my X31 to vibrate when put on a hard surface (desk). This is why I switched to a 5400 rpm drive (Toshiba) of the same size. That drive does not vibrate and it has served me very well. I haven't noticed such a huge price in terms of performance. HDD speed is only one component in overall system performance.
The biggest drawback of 1.8" drives for me is the limited capacity: you're pretty much stuck to 60 GB, while 2.5" drives now have double that amount. And now that Lenovo more or less abandoned 1.8" drives in their X60, the Hitachi format (2.5" drive "sawn" in half) is pretty much a dead-end, with the captive market of existing X40/41 users.

I benchmarked the *beep* out of them.

And I can tell you that the X40 maxes around 16mb read.
And the E7K60 in my X31 around 35/40mb

So sure its not 10x, no hdd is 10x faster then the 1.8” Hitachi disk.
I know that.

Btw, my X31 also vibrates with the 7k60, with a 4k40 (4200rpm) the problem isn’t present.

40GB is more then enough for me, my reason for trading in my X40 was really the speed, I open allot of large files (50mb) and then the X40 is just to slow.
Now every laptop I use has a 7200rpm, no slower hdd’s more for me.

Call me silly, but I won’t change back.

I would if that was the only laptop I need, but since I need to buy one for my mother as well, I'll just give the x41 to my mother and get the X60 myself!

This is interesting. I hadn't thought of this with respect to faster drives. I wonder, though, whether the anti-shock housing in the new X60 and x60s will stiffle this? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yes, 2 months is what they told me today when I called an EPP salesperson.
In fact, the EPP salesperson told me that they were not currently allowed to take phone orders for an X60 or X60s.
That is a bit too long a lead time for them to be quoting, IMHO. If it were "sometime February" that would be ok, but 2 months is into (or past) the middle of March.

UPDATE: I called today and was told "late March or early April"!!! Now it is becoming apparent that Lenovo simply wanted to announce Core Duo machines at CES, but they don't have the product ready for production.
