rapid restore and hdd protection

Hi,
Would you know how to delete the additional partition on my hard drive I made using IBM rapid restore. I think that Norton Ghost gives you a better management of your back ups and so I wish to make a back up of my preload C drive using Ghost and then delete the 4MB partition of rapid restore. Please note that I am not talking about hidden system partition – I will get rid of it once the guarantee time is up.

One more question. I do not think so that thinkpad r40 got a HDD protection system – I am using my laptop primarily on my laps and sometimes the system is shaken, yanked ect .. I would love to protect my hdd against any damage that I can cause to my baby. How can I do that ?
